Proposal Prep Guide

Congratulations

If you’re here, you’re about to ask one of the most important questions of your life and I’m truly honored to help you capture it.

This guide is designed to walk you through everything you need to know so your proposal feels smooth, natural, and unforgettable, while still keeping the surprise completely intact.

My goal is to document the emotion of the moment without interrupting it the nerves, the anticipation, the reaction, and everything in between.

My Role In Your Proposal Experience

Planning a proposal can feel overwhelming, but you don’t have to figure everything out alone.

My role is to help make the process feel smooth, stress-free, and seamless while preserving the surprise and emotion of the moment.

From helping choose the perfect location to guiding timing, lighting, and positioning, I’ll help create a plan that photographs beautifully while still feeling natural and authentic to your relationship.

Before the proposal, we’ll discuss:

-  Your vision and overall vibe

-  Location options

-  Timing and lighting

-  How to keep the surprise believable

-  The exact setup and positioning

-  Backup plans

-  Be positioned and ready before you arrive

-  Guide you into the exact moment when you’re ready

-  Capture the proposal from start to finish

-  Continue photographing the immediate reaction and emotions afterward

-  Help guide you into a short mini couple session after the proposal if desired

During the proposal, I’ll remain discreet while documenting the moment naturally as it unfolds capturing the anticipation, reaction, emotion, and all the little in-between moments you’ll never want to forget.

My goal is for you to feel fully present in the moment while I take care of everything behind the scenes.

The Setup Plan

We will coordinate a “cover story” so your partner doesn’t suspect a thing.

Common setups include:

Couples photoshoot

Casual date night

Let’s get dressed up and go somewhere nice (Works best with a friend asking)

I’ll guide you through exactly how to act, where to stand, and when to begin so everything feels natural.

What You Should Do

1.  Go At a Natural Pace

Don’t rush the moment. Take a breath, say what you want to say, and let it unfold.

If you are getting down on one knee, stay down for a few extra seconds. This gives your photographer  plenty of time to capture the perfect, emotional shot

2.  Outfits & Appearance

Since this is often a secret encourage your partner to dress nicely but naturally. Lean on family and friends to help with this part its less suspicious coming from them

Recommended:

-  Neutral tones

-  Soft dresses or flowy outfits for her

-  Coordinated but not matching outfits

-  Comfortable shoes if walking is involved

Adding onto that if you think she’d want her nails done for the proposal (she probably will), try to find a natural way to make that happen beforehand. It’s one of those little details she’ll likely appreciate and remember when looking back at the photos later.

And remember you do not have to plan everything alone. Lean on me anytime throughout the process, and don’t be afraid to involve trusted friends or family if needed.

It’s often the small thoughtful details the planning, intention, and effort behind the moment that she’ll remember forever.

Ring & Kneeling Tips

It’s true what they say practice makes perfect.

Before the proposal, practice getting down on one knee a few times in the mirror or even record yourself on video. It may feel silly, but it helps you see how everything will look and helps calm nerves for the actual moment.

Figure out ahead of time where you’ll keep the ring and make sure it’s secure but still easy to access quickly. Try to avoid making it obvious by constantly checking your pocket or acting nervous around it.

A few helpful tips:

-  Keep the ring box in a pocket that won’t create a noticeable bulge

-  Practice pulling the box out smoothly beforehand

-  Make sure the box is facing the correct direction when opening it

-  Take a deep breath before kneeling don’t rush the moment

-  Once you kneel, pause and take in the reaction before jumping back up

Most importantly, remember that it does not need to be perfect to be meaningful.

The emotion, anticipation, nerves, and genuine reaction are what make the moment unforgettable and those are the moments she’ll cherish forever.

After the Proposal

After the “yes,” I will continue photographing:

-  The reaction

-  Hugs and celebration

-  Close emotional moments

-  Ring details

-  A short couples session (if planned)

This becomes a full story, not just a single moment.

Most Importantly…

This is not just about asking a question.

It’s about a moment you will remember for the rest of your life the nerves, the anticipation, the emotion, and the “yes.”

My job is to preserve it exactly as it happens so you can relive it forever.
