Family Prep Guide

Welcome

Thank you so much for choosing Meagan Nicole Photography to capture your family. I know preparing for family photos can sometimes feel overwhelming, but my goal is to make the experience feel easy, relaxed, and enjoyable from start to finish.

This guide will walk you through everything you need to know before your session so you feel fully prepared and confident.

Most importantly your session does not need to be perfect to create beautiful images.

The most meaningful photographs come from genuine connection, laughter, movement, and simply being together.

What to Expect

My family sessions are relaxed and connection-focused rather than stiff or overly posed. I’ll gently guide you throughout the session while also allowing room for natural interaction and emotion.

   Expect:

-  Movement

-  Cuddles

-  Laughing

-  Walking

-  Playing with your kids

-  Genuine moments

I focus on capturing your family as you truly are.

What to Wear

Wardrobe makes a huge impact on the overall look and feel of your images. I always recommend coordinating rather than perfectly matching.

Recommended Colors

-  Neutrals

-  Earth tones

-  Creams

-  Soft blues

-  Warm browns

-  Muted colors-

Avoid

-  Neon colors

-  Busy patterns

-  Large logos/graphics

-  Matching everyone in identical outfits

Textures and layers photograph beautifully and add depth to your images.

As part of my full-service experience, I’m always happy to help style your family and coordinate outfits before your session.

Preparing Children

1.  Keep Expectations Relaxed

The best images usually happen when children are allowed to play, move, and interact naturally.

Please avoid putting pressure on your children to “behave perfectly” for photos.

2.  Talk About the Session Positively

Instead of telling kids to smile or behave, talk about the session like it’s a fun family outing.

Your energy sets the tone.

3.  Bring Snacks & Comfort Items

Especially for younger children, having:

-  Small non-messy snacks

-  Water

-  Favorite comfort items

-  Small rewards/bribes if needed can make a huge difference.

Session Day Tips

1.  Arrive Early

Arriving a few minutes early allows everyone time to settle in and start relaxed.

2.  Trust the Process

You do not need to worry about posing or what to do with your hands I’ll guide you every step of the way.

Some of the best moments happen in between poses.

3.  Focus on Connection

Instead of worrying about everyone looking at the camera perfectly, focus on loving on your family, interacting naturally, and enjoying the moment together.

Those are the images that become the most meaningful years from now.

Hair & Makeup

Professional hair and makeup can make a huge difference in helping you feel confident and relaxed during your session.

I highly recommend soft, natural makeup that enhances your features while still feeling like you. If needed, I’m always happy to provide trusted artist recommendations.

If you’re doing your own makeup:

-  Slightly more makeup than everyday photographs best

-  Avoid heavy glitter products

-  Keep your look true to your personality

Feeling good translates beautifully into your photos.

Most Importantly…

Your family does not need to look perfect to be beautifully photographed.

The tiny in-between moments the way your child reaches for your hand, the laughter, the cuddles, the chaos those are the moments worth remembering.

My goal is to preserve this season exactly as it feels so you can hold onto it for years to come.
